Important Notice Regarding Typhoon No. 13: Expected Impacts on Your Stay and Travel Plans
Special Note: A decision regarding special cancellation fee waivers will be made starting August 2, or by August 3 at the latest.
Thank you for choosing Hotel East China Sea.
Typhoon No. 13 is currently moving westward and may approach or impact the Okinawa and Ishigaki Island regions.
Prioritizing the safety and peace of mind of our guests, we would like to inform you about the potential impacts and risks associated with the approaching typhoon. We strongly advise guests—especially families with children and elderly travelers—to carefully consider local restrictions and potential risks, and to strongly consider rescheduling or canceling their travel plans.
This early release of disaster risk information is based on the principles of Tourism Resilience and Crisis Management promoted by UN Tourism.
1. Expected Dates of Impact
- Expected Impact Period: Around Thursday, August 6 – Sunday, August 9
- Please note that these dates may shift forward or backward depending on the movement and trajectory of the typhoon.
2. Impact on Transportation
- Flights (Ishigaki Airport & Naha Airport): If wind speeds increase, all flights may be canceled, or flights may be forced to turn back to departure cities such as Haneda, Kansai, or Fukuoka. In the event of cancellations, securing alternative flights can be extremely difficult, and you may be unable to depart from or arrive at Ishigaki Island for several days.
- Ferries from the Ferry Terminal: Ferry services are often completely suspended even before the typhoon arrives due to swells and high waves. There is a risk of becoming stranded on outer islands (such as Hateruma Island or Iriomote Island) without the ability to return to Ishigaki Island.
3. Potential Risks During Your Stay (Utilities, Medical Support, etc.)
- Electricity (Power Outages): Strong winds may cause power lines to break, leading to prolonged power outages. During an outage, air conditioning, elevators, and room lighting will not be available.
- Water Supply (Water Outages): If water pumps stop due to a power outage, water supply interruptions or low water pressure may occur.
- Wi-Fi and Communications: Indoor Wi-Fi and mobile network signals may become unstable or unavailable due to power outages or equipment issues.
- Emergency Response & Health Risks (e.g., Heatstroke): Once the island enters the typhoon’s storm zone and a storm warning is issued, ambulance dispatch becomes extremely difficult, creating a risk that injured or sick individuals cannot be transported to a hospital. Furthermore, if air conditioning stops due to a power outage, the risk of heatstroke increases significantly, posing a severe health hazard—particularly for elderly guests and children.
- Disruption of Supplies: With sea and air transport completely suspended, local convenience stores and supermarkets will experience shortages of food, daily necessities, baby formula, diapers, and other items.
Changes Based on the Typhoon’s Path
Please note that the forecasted path of Typhoon No. 13 remains uncertain. If the typhoon turns further north or east, the impact on Ishigaki Island and the risks mentioned above may be significantly reduced or eliminated.
Closing Request
During the approach of a typhoon, going outside the hotel premises is extremely dangerous, and guests will be required to stay inside their rooms. Additionally, if power or water outages occur, we may be unable to provide a comfortable environment for your stay.
To ensure a safe and worry-free trip, we kindly ask that you check the latest weather information and storm trajectories, and consider rescheduling or postponing your travel plans as early as possible.
