#shimanrokusennichi literally means 46,000 days and is one of the most special events at Senso-ji Temple. During these two days, the lively Hozuki Ichi (Ground Cherry Market) fills the temple grounds with more than 100 stalls selling vibrant #hozuki plants and traditional Japanese furin (wind chimes).
The hozuki plant is closely associated with the Obon Festival in August. Its seeds are offered to help guide the spirits of the deceased, while its bright orange fruit resembles the lanterns that illuminate Obon celebrations.
According to tradition, praying to Kannon, the deity enshrined at Senso-ji Temple, during Shimanrokusennichi brings the same spiritual merit as visiting the temple every day for 46,000 days. It is also a time when many people pray for good fortune, good health, and happiness, making this festival a beautiful blend of faith, tradition, and the vibrant spirit of summer in Tokyo.
